The 6-day journey begins in Kigali with a cultural introduction before traveling south to Nyungwe National Park for rainforest adventures and a canopy walk. From there, the route continues west to the tranquil shores of Lake Kivu at Rubavu, where you can relax by the water and enjoy lakeside activities. The trip concludes with a return to Kigali for a full city tour and a reflective farewell before departure.

Kigali City & Lake Kivu Nature Getaway

  • Day 1: Arrival in Kigali & Welcome Dinner
    You arrive at Kigali International Airport and are warmly received by your Severius guide. After transfer to your hotel, you’ll receive a briefing on the upcoming five days of exploration. In the evening you’ll dine at a local restaurant and taste authentic Rwandan cuisine, setting the tone for your journey ahead. Overnight in Kigali.
  • Day 2: Cultural Sites & Tea Plantation on the Road to Nyungwe
    Early in the morning, depart Kigali heading toward Nyungwe National Park. En route, stop at the King’s Palace Museum and dive into centuries-old stories of Rwanda’s monarchy and cultural history. Stop for lunch, then continue to the lush Gisakura tea plantation for a sensory experience among rolling green leaves. Arrive at lodge near Nyungwe by evening, enjoy dinner and rest amid forest surroundings.
  • Day 3: Canopy Walk & Transfer to Lake Kivu / Rubavu
    After breakfast, explore the rainforest via the canopy walkway at Uwinka Overlook. Experience the forest’s heights, birdlife and unique vegetation as your footsteps echo among ancient trees. After lunch in Nyungwe, depart for the scenic drive to Rubavu on Lake Kivu. Arrive in the afternoon to settle into your lakeside lodge, perhaps take a swim or relax by the beach, enjoy a sunset boat ride, dine overlooking waters shimmering with evening light.
  • Day 4: Free Morning & Return to Kigali
    Rise to a serene morning by the lake: enjoy a relaxed start, coffee, maybe a gentle walk, optional boat ride on Lake Kivu. After lunch, drive back to Kigali where the afternoon and evening are yours to explore or simply unwind. Overnight in Kigali.
  • Day 5: Full Day Kigali City Tour
    Spend a full day exploring Kigali’s many facets. Visit the Genocide Memorial Center to reflect on Rwanda’s history; explore markets and galleries that showcase Rwanda’s arts and crafts; tour the Campaign Against Genocide Museum and learn about reconciliation efforts. In the evening, enjoy Kigali’s atmosphere with dinner and possibly sampling the local nightlife or eateries. Overnight in Kigali.
  • Day 6: Departure from Kigali
    After breakfast, depending on your flight schedule, you will be transferred to Kigali International Airport for your onward journey. Carry with you impressions of Rwanda’s culture, nature, lakeside calm, and historical richness.
